Bronze figurine of a dove from the sanctuary of the goddess Hera at Perachora/Corinthia. 6th cent. B.C.
This particular figurine is thought originally to have rested on the hand of a statue, probably depicting Hera. In the Homeric epics the goddesses Hera and Athena metamorphose into doves. Doves are the symbol of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and also accompany the Fates and the Furies.
