Bronze figurine of Zeus Kerauneios (Wielding the thunder), from the sanctuary of Zeus at Dodona. 470-460 B.C.

This type of the god in a striding stance, with his left hand stretched out in front and thunderbolt in his right, is known from other figurines, as well as from pottery painting and coins. The thunderbolt is a symbol of presence and authority of the omnipotent god who seeks to impose divine order in the world.
