Bronze Caryatid type of stand-mirror with a tripod base. Product of an Argive workshop. About 455 B.C.
The opposed pairs of figures around the periphery of the disc –cupids, hounds, hares, cocks- are associated with the women’s world too. The exact function of these mirrors –toilet items, grave objects, ritual articles- is elusive but they should have been luxury objects due to their rarity and workmanship.
