Glass perfume vase.

1st to 2nd century A.D.

High-necked glass perfume vase of a deep blue color (cobalt blue). Its body is decorated on both sides with a plastic head of a youthful figure, probably Eros. The figure is depicted with a fleshy face that is framed by rich curly hair.

The body of the vase was cast in a mould and the neck was made with the technique of blown glass. Such perfume vases were made in the Eastern Mediterranean, mainly in Syria, and were especially popular through the Mediterranean in the 1st and 2nd centuries A.D.
