Bronze statuette of a consumptive man.

Ptolemaic period, 2nd century B.C.

Possibly a personification of envy in the pose of self-suffocation. They were suspended with chains at the entrance of homes as an apotropaic symbol. Its apotropaic nature is strengthened by the representation of an oversized phallus from which a small bell was hung.
