Marble statue of Nike, found on Delos, Cyclades.
ca. 550 BC.
Statue of Nike, made of parian marble. It was found on the island of Delos, in the Cyclades. The winged goddess is depicted running to the right. She wears a peplos and a chiton, leaving the bent right leg exposed. On her head she wears a wreath, once adorned by metal jewellery.
This is the earliest free-standing statue of a Nike, work by an island craftsman. Its attribution to Archermos of Chios is by no means secure.
Height: 0,90 m.
