Marble relief of a runner, made of parian marble. Found near the Theseion, in Athens.
ca. 550 BC.
Relief of a youth, made of pentelic marble. It was found near the Theseion, in Athens. It depicts a nude youth wearing a helmet and running in the race in heavy armor. It is a highly important relief, on account of the way in which the figure is incorporated within the shape of the trapezoid slab, with the legs shown to the side, the body frontally, and the head turned behind. The traces on the slab and the details of the relief decoration reveal that it is a grave relief.
