Marble herm portrait of the kosmetes (magistrate) Sosistratos, from Athens

The herm portrait was found in Athens, near the church of Ayios Dimitrios Katiphores, site of the Diogeneion Gymnasium. According to the inscription carved on the upper front side of the stele, the youths dedicated the stele to honour the kosmetes (magistrate) Sosistratos. At the bottom of the stele reference is made to the paidotribes (trainer) Abaskantos, son of Eumolpos.
