Celebration in the National Archaeological Museum
24th, 25th and 26th September 2010
The celebration of theEuropeanHeritageDays 2010 at the Greek Museums is also devoted to Spells, Incantations and Amulets. Magic in the Ancient and Christian World. The National Archaeological Museum participates with the following events:
1. A small-scale temporary exhibition pertaining to Magic in Antiquity. Myths and Symbols will be housed in Room 39, from September 24 to November 28, 2010.
2.The visitors of this special exhibition will be provided with a pamphlet recording more finds pertaining to magic from sections of the Museum’s permanent exhibition, in order to be able to trace them as they stroll through it.
3.The documentary film “Wandering in the land of the dead” staged by Dominique Adt (2008) will be released in the amphitheatre of the National Archaeological Museum. This film won the special award “Archaeology and Arts” in the film festival for archaeological productions AGON 2010 (Competition 2010). It deals with magic ritual in the ancient cemetery of the Athenian Kerameikos and two major ancient Greek oracles.
The original French version with Greek subtitles will be projected on Friday 24 and Saturday 25, September 2010, between 19:00-21:00. Free entrance from Tositsa St. 1, upon request in advance (Monday-Friday 09:00-15:00 in tel. 210 8217724).
